Pets United is at it again. On Aug. 11, the $50 million pet supplies merchant acquired Groomers.com, a Website for pet-grooming professionals.

The company will mail more than 120,000 Groomers.com catalogs in the fourth quarter of 2006 and the first quarter of 2007. Pets United's other print catalogs are Country Supply, specializing in equine products; Dog.com; and Petstockroom, which sells bird supplies.

Pets United also plans to redesign the Groomers.com Website so that it resembles its other sites, which include Horse.com, Dog.com, and Ferret.com. In addition to selling product, the sites all offer online communities wherein pet owners and enthusiasts have a forum for advice and discussion and include classified ads. The enhanced Website will launch in September; what Pets United calls "the first professional and social networking" platform for pet groomers will go live in October.

The company, which will mail more than 10 million catalogs this year, expects 2006 revenue to exceed $75 million. (For more on Pets United, see "Pets United: Animal Magnetism" in the June issue of MULTICHANNEL MERCHANT.)
