Business-to-businesses industrial products manufacturer/marketer Thermo Fisher Scientific announced Sept. 5 it has acquired the $30 million instrument sales business of Davis Inotek Instruments. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquired company will be called Davis Instruments, and will be rolled into Thermo Fisher's Cole-Parmer division, a specialty catalog brand that sells technical instruments, equipment and supplies to industrial, pharmaceutical, academic and government customers.
But Cole-Parmer president Andy Greenawalt says Davis Instruments will continue to publish annually as a separate catalog and will keep its focus toward industrial and manufacturing customers.
Greenawalt says that the company plans to cross-promote the titles, mailing the 1,200-plus-page Davis Instruments catalog to names on the Thermo Fisher buyer list, and viceversa.
Founded in 1912, Davis Inotek Instruments specializes in test, measurement and control instruments. The company also provides calibration services for instruments.
Waltham, MA-based Thermo Fisher Scientific was created when Thermo Electron Corp. and Fisher Scientific International merged last year. Fisher Scientific had acquired the Cole-Parmer Instrument Co. in 2001.
